Racism: CHallenging God?

Racism: CHallenging God?

We are now amidst the big row over the racist comments made on Shilpa Shetty. Though we are proud of living in a developed world but we are haunted by the phenomenon of racism felt globally. It only shows that human outlook has not yet progressed and that we are pulled down by our inhuman attitude and narrow world vision. In my opinion racism is a product of our mental make up--a feeling of superiority; a feeling that ‘I am better than you.’ If we look into the history, the spirit behind the colonization by the West, the export of slaves from Africa, the Nazi ideology and even the caste discrimination in India is the same.

To be treated equally is a fundamental right of every human person. On which ground can we build our superiority if we all return to the same ground where all are equal and only worms are masters? I believe that the ultimate source of my life is God and He loves me unconditionally regardless of my caste, creed or race. It is the same God who loves the other person in the other corner of the world. My attitude of belittling the other is equal to challenging God my Creator. One’s ethnicity does not add any worth to the self. The worth that you possess is that you are a human being and that you are a beloved son or daughter of the Almighty. If you deny this worth to your neighbour you are denying God himself. If a celebrity is facing such a situation, how worse must be the situation of an ordinary person?

No matter rich or poor, black or white, Shilpa or any other, every individual on earth possess an inherent dignity and self-respect. A person has every right to be respected as a human being created in the image and likeness of God. Any attempt to deny this right anywhere in the world has to be condemned and condemned eternally.

  • I really appreciate your comments. There is no questions that not only are we all children of a loving Father in Heaven but we are truly all connected to one another. As such to demean others is to demean ourselves. Everything we do, feel or think impacts every other entity in creation to a greater or lesser degree. Therefore, it's important that to watch our deeds and thoughts.

  • I'll add to that .... now we just have to encourage all religions to feel the same... the attempt at the recent peace march in washington to open it with a multi-denominational prayer was to be praised, regardless of you beliefs...
